The height you choose depends mostly on the amount of space between your shoulder and your jaw when the violin or viola is resting on your shoulder. The goal is to fill that gap so the instrument feels secure without needing to lift your shoulder or press down with your chin.

For the Resonans Shoulder Rest, the heights are:

Low – best for players with shorter necks or those who prefer minimal height

Medium – the most common choice and works well for many players

High – helpful for players with longer necks or who need more space filled between shoulder and instrument

These rests are not height-adjustable, but the metal legs can be gently bent to fine-tune the fit and angle on the instrument. If you’re unsure, Medium is usually the safest starting point, and many teachers recommend that height for most students.
