Born in Mirecourt and from a family of violin makers, Jules Gaillard worked in this prestigious center of violin making and was known to have collaborated with Paul Bailly. His instruments show the influence of the period and are reminiscent of famous makers of the time.

Violin Information: This example from 1862 by Jules Gaillard is based after a Stradivari pattern and produces a clear, sweet tone. The top is of two-piece spruce of narrow grain throughout. The back is of beautiful one-piece maple of prominent, narrow flame, almost horizontal. The ribs and scroll are similar to the back, scroll with a black chamfer. Varnished in a striking red-orange color shaded to a golden ground. Labeled "Leon Bernardel Luthier a Paris 1915" and signed Jules Gaillard 1862 under the table. LOB 358 mm.
