The Scott Cao "Vieuxtemps" is modeled after a violin made c. 1710 by Antonio Stradivari (1644-1737). The original instrument was played by the French composer and virtuoso Henri Vieuxtemps. It is also known as the "Hauser", after the Hungarian virtuoso Miska Hauser who owned the instrument after Vieuxtemps.
Spruce top of fine to medium grain. Two-piece maple back with broad, subtle flame. Ribs and scroll similar to back. Finished in an oil varnish of a red-brown on a golden ground and antiqued in the style of the original violin. Ebony fingerboard, pegs, tailpiece, and endbutton. Fine-tuner on E string. Aubert Mirecourt bridge. Guarneri-style, ebony chinrest. Handmade in China. Set-up by Southwest Strings.
