Bass Sizing
Most adults will play a 3/4 size bass, which is considered standard size. Basses that are 4/4 size are less common and are usually only played by professionals. For a smaller adult or child, other sizes are available.
The following approach may be used to determine the correct size of double bass for a student:
- When standing, the endpin should be let out until the nut of the bass is near the forehead. The upper bout should rest against the stomach.
- The right hand should be able to bow at the proper position on the bass without too much bend in the arm.
