Concerto in E Minor Op. 85 for Cello and Orchestra
For this new edition of Elgar's arrangement for cello and piano, having consulted the composer's hitherto unrecognised composition sketch, John Pickard (General Editor of the Elgar Society Edition) has taken careful account of differences with the printed full score, to provide the clearest possible version for cellists preparing to perform the work.

Bach and Before for Strings contains the same 19 chorales as Bach and Before for Band. Newly set in string-friendly keys, the string book cannot be used in conjunction with the band book. However, the book does provide material that is easily tailored to all string ensembles. Because each part book includes all four voice parts (soprano, alto, tenor, and bass) there are unlimited opportunities to introduce unison playing to the string orchestra. Unison playing is the most efficient way to improve the overall quality of a string orchestra's sound, and is the foundation of playing in-tune. The chorales range in difficulty from very easy to very sophisticated and are suitable for year two through high school string orchestras.

Originally for clarinet and piano. The circumstances in which these poetic "Soiree Pieces" (thus their original title) came into being are quite surprising. In 1849 Dresden was seized by violent political turmoil that ultimately forced Schumann to flee with Clara to the countryside. Yet none of this is apparent in the music of these three pieces, whose idyllic character signifies a longing for harmony and seclusion. Originally conceived for the clarinet, they were accompanied by alternative parts for violin and cello as early as the original print.Includes a section of detailed editorial notes.
