All the research reinforces the positive effect of performing a "first concert" with your beginning string players as soon as possible, and this collection was written to help you create a successful and exciting event. All of the compositions in this book use only the notes and skills covered in the first 10 - 12 pages of most typical method books. Of the thirteen pieces, five are pizzicato, and four others may be performed pizzicato or arco, providing you with the flexibility to select material that matches your students' abilities.

My First Progressive Duets for Strings is written to be the primer for volume 1 of Carl Fischer's Progressive Duets. Arranged in a progressive format, this collection contains easy songs in the first position and includes American folk tunes, easy classical arrangements, and more. These duets can be played in any combination of instruments.
"Playing With Style" is a set of colorful concert pieces in a variety of styles, including tango, ragtime, and jazz. The pieces use effects such as glissando and tremolo and allow opportunities to explore chromaticisms, swing rhythms, and syncopation. In the string parts, the melody is passed around so that all members of the ensemble can have the opportunity to play the tune. Fingerings have been kept to a minimum and are normally included only for clarification of chromatic passages or where notes go out of first position.
